Telluride

Spent Labor Day at the Telluride Film festival. Had a great time. Enjoyed seeing a bunch of movies even though none really blew me away. Here's a list of what I saw:

House of Flying Daggers - Fun. Along the lines of Crouching Tiger, Hidden dragon. Sort of.
Keane - Not so fun. Close up (literally shot close to his face) of a man going crazy. Memorable for lines like "STOP LOOKING AT ME!!"
Enduring Love - Amazing initial balloon scene, some fun film tricks. I enjoyed it.
Kontroll - I really liked this one. Depiction of Eastern European subway/train ticket takers. Music video styling, some mystery, good characters.
Aaltra - Odd. Comedy? about 2 guys in wheelchairs. Ask Donna about the punk rock scene.
Merchant of Venice - OK. Period piece. Follows play fairly close (as memory serves). Not exceptional and I like the play and shakespeare.
Moolaade - it's about female circumcision. Yeah.
Baober in Love - Odd. Amelie gone horribly wrong. Good exposure of the "loss of soul" in China as growth happens incredibly fast.
Kinsey - More I think about it, the less I like it. Rather dull film about Dr. Kinsey, the sex guy.
Gunner Palace - interesting, suprisingly non-biased look at a day in the life of a soldier in Iraq. Notable in part due to the original rap from the soldiers.
Up & Down - Probably the group favorite. "I'm doing this so I can eat fried bat in Thailand". Nice.
Being Julia - Lighthearted humor.

Nice. So when can we expect to see any (or all) of these movies in a theater near us?

Good question...I'm guessing Merchant, House of, Enduring, and Kinsey will be out fairly soon. Some I doubt will ever make it to wide release - of course I'd guess there are a lot of art house theatres in NYC...
