Along with Ratatat and Junior Boys.
I bet I like Jr. Boys the more I listen to them and Ratatat, while I haven't yet figured out *when* I'd listen to them - perhaps on a road trip? - it was a fun display of guitars - the silver surfer would be proud. M on M definitely made you want to dance, even if you can't dance. And always interesting to see a drummer/singer.
Added some non cell phone pictures of the show here. The show was really good btw, you missed out if you missed it. (don't you hate people that say that?)
Goes with my theory though, if a band is having fun I like the show a lot more, and these guys were having fun - even played a Beyonce cover, of course I was seeing double by then - no thanks to the twins who kept handing me liquids. By the time I left Atomic after the show I had pretty much ruined my entire next day, but overall I'd say a good time was had by all.

Good show. The hipster next to me asked, "isn't pink floyd dead?" but I think it's a pretty weak comparison. Besides, he's too young to talk about pink floyd...pf takes me back to rainy days in 3rd grade...Ms. Elam would turn out the lights at recess, put on her copy of "the wall" and soon a whole room full of 3rd graders would be chanting, "dark sarcarsm in the classroom...." I'm sure she sang the loudest when it came to "leave them kids alone" which is what endeared her to my heart - well that and the field trip to her house wherein she showed me her heart shaped tub - but that's another story....
Anyway, Secret Machines = good.

Saw this last night, I think what I learned from it is, always always always choose the girl with the eye-patch.

Sold out the Bluebird on a Monday night. So the bad phone picture is even worse than usual - I wasn't up for the fight to the front.
My theory is the sisters got tired of waiting in lines for Broadway auditions and just decided to go out on the road disco rock style. So the show was a little bit of broadway on colfax. I have to say though, I was disappointed they didn't play their cover of FF's "take me out".
Started by seeing 3 short films as part of the Starz 'Erotic Autumn' series. The crowd consisted primarily of creepy guys alone and women aged 60 years and up. Which pretty much confirms my theory - but that's another story....
Oh, and the films weren't very erotic or entertaining sad to say. Though the first one contained a majority of the castmembers of The Soprano's.
Then, while walking over to Lime to rendezvous with some swiss hotties, got stuck in Oktoberfest. I'm pretty sure my private hell will be some sort of amusement park, carnival, street fair combination with swirling ferris wheels, hawkers with large teeth yelling at me, cotton candy stuck to my fingers and gum under my shoes. There will be walls of people leering and pushing and stopping and the stink of funnel cakes, spilt beer and fried who-know-whats will permeate my very being. And, no thanks to Sarte, I'll have no eyelids with which to block it out.
Thankfully a tequila shot and a few marg's were able to calm me down - a little. The theme in that basement below the chicken hat wearing, german for the night, lederhose loving masses was self-flagellation. People are so fascinating, amazing what they'll put up with - or put themselves through.
I was glad to head home.
I finally read The DaVinci Code.
Maybe I'm just a grump but I was disappointed. After all the hub-bub and supposed religion cracking buzz, I thought it would be a little more literature and a little less, "The Hawker 731's twin Garrett TFE-731 engines thundered, powering the plane skyward with gut-wrenching force" - all Clive Cussler like.
My 14 year old nephew would probably like it and it'll probably be an entertaining movie, but I'm going to twitch if I hear the term "literature" associated with it.
Oh, and as for "shaking up christendom" or any of that, I can't fathom it, the "conclusions" or intimations are for plot fun, not much historical interest - Dan Brown did a good job of disguising it as "fact" - similar to the way I really want to believe James Bond has all those gadgets....
It's a bummer people are interested enough in religiousity to get excited about a book like this, but so few pick up the bible and read a gospel or two. Much more fun to criticize something you actually know something about.

Good enough for 2 pictures, even horrible phone pictures. This is the real deal, these guys rock. Playing to a packed crowd at the Gothic, it's a different scene than at the lair a few years ago - but the music is just as rockin.

Unfortunately, I missed the French Kicks opener - had to come straight from the airport.
Keane is kind of prog rock, reminded me a bit of Ultravox. They had a "rock and roll" stage presence with mellow music. Kind of odd. I bet fans of Coldplay love them.

I come home the other day to a guy sitting on my porch waiting for me.
"Hey, i wuz jez wunderin' whats goin on wit yer garage? Could I rent that?"
-breath still reeking of alcohol.
"No, sorry, not for rent."
Crazy thing is, this is the third time someone has asked me this! And I'm talking about this garage - take a look at the pictures!
So...what do you think a place like that would rent for, anyway??

Spent Labor Day at the Telluride Film festival. Had a great time. Enjoyed seeing a bunch of movies even though none really blew me away. Here's a list of what I saw:
House of Flying Daggers - Fun. Along the lines of Crouching Tiger, Hidden dragon. Sort of.
Keane - Not so fun. Close up (literally shot close to his face) of a man going crazy. Memorable for lines like "STOP LOOKING AT ME!!"
Enduring Love - Amazing initial balloon scene, some fun film tricks. I enjoyed it.
Kontroll - I really liked this one. Depiction of Eastern European subway/train ticket takers. Music video styling, some mystery, good characters.
Aaltra - Odd. Comedy? about 2 guys in wheelchairs. Ask Donna about the punk rock scene.
Merchant of Venice - OK. Period piece. Follows play fairly close (as memory serves). Not exceptional and I like the play and shakespeare.
Moolaade - it's about female circumcision. Yeah.
Baober in Love - Odd. Amelie gone horribly wrong. Good exposure of the "loss of soul" in China as growth happens incredibly fast.
Kinsey - More I think about it, the less I like it. Rather dull film about Dr. Kinsey, the sex guy.
Gunner Palace - interesting, suprisingly non-biased look at a day in the life of a soldier in Iraq. Notable in part due to the original rap from the soldiers.
Up & Down - Probably the group favorite. "I'm doing this so I can eat fried bat in Thailand". Nice.
Being Julia - Lighthearted humor.

Saw gijyun last night at the speakeasy. Also met him and him.
