Late, late show. Late. Then phone calls and booty calls and empty spaces downtown, push cart derbies, jr. high photos and phew, next day tired.
I was confused why more people weren't there though, where were all the hipsters? This band is good, kind of a rapture/cure combo, danceable rock. The heroin thin Japanese singer/guitarist was trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to get the small crowd on their feet. Perhaps a different night at a different venue would have worked better. Although, bender's is a great place to see a show.
The Fever opened. Feverishly.

More on this event here. Essentially hot people wearing only paint. Oh yeah.

All the way down in the springs no less. Dressy Bessy opened. Good show, they're super talented, but that show back in June at the Gothic was better.

Fun. Sounded just like the cd. Maybe I'd have something more interesting to say if it didn't. Maybe the show would have been more interesting. Maybe I'm just grumpy. That Trouble Everyday band was sure into it.

Because I couldn't get close enough to the stage. PJ = hotness. Karen O. is a diligent student I'm sure, but hasn't graduated yet.
Lucked into this show thanks to a pal, so I saw this instead of the dirtbombs. Sorry Ko, I'll see you next time around.

After the eat-fest we headed to the hi-dive for kerry-oke. Wendi hit 9-5 with a flair, sean sang and danced to mustang sally, donna crushed on maps and fil gets huge bonus points for re-writing lyrics to the wall, that "twin towers gonna fall" bit was good work.
And, apparently, I stepped too far into ironic territory scaring folk with a little bit of country.
But Beckman, where the heck were you? (that goes for the rest of you too)

They should have called it Westword's Fashion Affair.... Good times with Dave, Wendi & Sean at the menu affair. And the buttery chicken from Little India was the clear winner.
Saw, finally, the hot iq's last night at the hi-dive. Also The Shore and Earlimart.
All the laylights showed up advertising their show this Saturday night at the hi-dive - come check them out. Saw a bunch of random people which is always fun and shut down the sputnik over a nice plate of strelka sweet potato fries chatting with Grace.
Good times.

Here's how I described the show to my pal W2:
The Fiery Furnaces were...odd. It was an extremely entertaining show though. The drummer was a nutcase and very entertaining. The singer was pretty much an hour or more of non-stop prose coming right out of her mouth with little to no expression. I think she has a few screws loose. In fact, the entire band seemed like the may have just escaped from an institution. And the crowd was weird too - moshing! It seemed like there were about 15-20 people who had joined the cult of the fiery and had clearly seen their shows before, responding - even initiating - call/response lyrics from the band. Odd.
More pictures from the show.
Oh, Low Flying Owls opened and were really good.
And yes, I did drive up and back from the springs for this show. Feeling Sean's pain.
